Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Association (ARCAS)

Who we are: ARCAS is a non-profit Guatemalan NGO formed in 1989 to conserve endangered wildlife and its habitat.  It was originally created to build a rescue center to care for and rehabilitate wild animals being confiscated on the black market by the Guatemalan government. The ARCAS Rescue Center since has grown into one of the largest and most complex rescue centers in the world, receiving between 300 and 600 animals of more than 40 species per year.  ARCAS has also branched out into other very necessary activities including environmental education, protected areas management, marine turtle conservation, sustainable community development, ecotourism and reforestation.

Type of knowledge or skills needed: Wildlife rescue, management, research. Marine biology. Veterinary medicine. Environmental education. Wildlife trafficking control

Non-cash donations: As a non-profit, ARCAS is always in need of donated veterinary medicines and supplies, including surgical gloves, hemostats, syringes and other clinical supplies and medicines. In addition, for our educational activities, we need educational and office supplies such as notebooks, pencils, pens, crayons and face paint.  For the sea turtle project, supplies that are needed include flashlights, first aid kits, medicines, repellents, antibiotic creme, vitamins, bandages, tape. Computer and cell phone equipment is also needed for communications and educational activities.
