The Africa Community Trust

Who we are:
The Africa Community Trust, an organization that brings community-led development projects where they're needed most, is launching Project: Hello World. Hello World will educate children in refugee camps across remote parts of Africa. The organization is building internet-enabled computer stations (Hello Hubs) that will reach between 1,500-5,000 children per site. Your donated tablet will help extend access to children outside the immediate kiosk, maximizing the number of children who can simultaneously learn. We'll use your tablet to train the children how to use a computer for digital education, connectivity and play.
Type of knowledge or skills needed:
Join the Granny Cloud! We connect volunteer teachers and mentors across the world with children and adults at our Hello Hubs in Africa. We are always looking for dedicated mentors and teachers to join the Granny Cloud to offer conversational English practice and other training and support. And you don’t necessarily have to be a granny to sigh up…
Non-cash donations:
Donate your tablet computer! Have you upgraded your iPad or Android Tablet recently? We'd love your old device to help children get an education. We'll take any tablet, so long as it has a working browser, can hold a charge, and doesn't have a cracked screen. We will erase all data from donated tablets prior to launching the program. Simply drop off your tablet (and charger) in person in New York or London at one of these locations: DRAFT FCB, 84 Eccleston Square, London, United Kingdom, SW1V 1PX Knickerbockerglory, The Ugli Building, 56 Wood Lane, London W12 7SB

Any further information the volunteer should know?:
Donate! We urgently need your support to help make the Hello World Hubs possible. We are building the first Hello Hub in Nigeria in October 2013 and your donation will help us get there in time. We work to create sustainable solutions that attack the roots of the systemic issues that cause poverty and injustice. It’s all about community involvement. Every one of our projects focuses on supplying community members with an infrastructure to continue our work on their own. We’re moving communities from dependence on aid, to independence. We need your help to reach as many children as possible, please donate today:
