Who we are: The SER Alzira de Aleluia English, Spanish course aims to provide professional style language teaching that develops the key skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening, as well as a fun extra-curricular activity. We provide English classes for all ages and abilities free of charge to members of the community of Vidigal. Given that the community has high levels of poverty, English and Spanish courses are way beyond the financial means of many; therefore we provide the key for residents to improve future prospects and opportunities.
Type of knowledge or skills needed: We are looking for volunteers to assist giving English lessons, Spanish lessons, Computer classes, Balet Classes, Soccer classes, Voleybal classes, community meetings at the centre. Volunteers must be:
At least 18 years old
Enthusiastic, friendly and reliable
Hard working and flexible – working with an NGO can be frustrating at times and development can be slow but it is always worth it!
Reliable and good at time keeping
Able commit to giving lessons twice a week for a minimum of 3 months
Non-cash donations: We need lap top, computer, sport equipamets, civil construction material, food for the children snacks, tablet, professional digital camera, school uniform

Any further information the volunteer should know? The NGO offers accommodations for volunteers that is conveniently located above the school in Vidigal. There are many rooms each designed for two people and comes with a private bathroom and air conditioning. Each room is 12 square meters with good air circulation and great lighting that`s perfect for reading and other activities to enjoy your privacy. The volunteer common area includes a kitchen, a washing station with a place to naturally dry your clothing and a newly remodelled rooftop terrace with an incredible view of Ipanema and the ocean.
