Who we are: Hike Volcanoes. Help Kids. Quetzaltrekkers is a non-profit, volunteer-run trekking organization that offers adventurous hikes throughout the volcanoes located near León, Nicaragua. ALL of the profits from the hikes go to support five local organizations that work with disadvantaged you.
Type of knowledge or skills needed: Volunteers must be able to speak advanced English and intermediate Spanish, be in good physical condition, have hiking experience, and basic knowledge of First Aid. Volunteers also must commit to a minimum of 3 months.
During their time in León, volunteers can expect to hike 3-4 days a week, prepare and clean up for those hikes, spend time with the kids at the projects that QT supports, work two 4-hour office shifts, aid in the promotion of the organization, and assist in other special events.
Non-cash donations: Volunteers do not pay a fee for volunteering and hikes are completely free! However, volunteers are expected to pay for their own room, food, drinks, etc when they are not hiking.
